Fr. Stephen Holdsworth
After 5 ½ yrs of faithful service to the community of St. Mary’s Abbey, it is with deep regret and a sad occasion to see our Chaplain – Fr. Stephen Holdsworth of Belmont Abbey, Hereford, return home to his monastery. We pray that he will settle down quickly and make new friends, also knowing that he will be very well looked after.
Recent events at the Abbey included a Retreat group of Carmelite Tietiaries for a weekend.
We also had 8 Oblates for the retreat which lasted over 3 short days, and was given by Dom Brendan Thomas of Belmont Abbey.
The theme being St. Benedict, Prayer and Lectio.
This was on St. Benedict and discovering who St. Benedict was and the times he lived in Norcia his birth place, Subiaco and Monte Cassino. Prayer & lectio in the monastic tradition .
On the Friday morning at Mass we welcomed Norah who made her Oblation with us and the other Oblates renewed their Oblation.' Their view of the retreat was : monastic, Benedictine and truly inspirational.
Cards & Candles
'The community are undertaking a new initiative for themselves, we are going back to the Rule and its roots and basics for renewing our life as Benedictines. We are in the process of trying to develop our Artistic and creative talents to create cards and other items which hopefully will include small candles, notelets, paintings etc for our small shop area / repository'.
